Mary Cook, 60, of Bean Station passed away Sunday, July 20 at her home.

Arrangements will be announced by Mayes Family Services, Downtown Chapel.


Leslie Glenn Emert, 51, of New Market, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

He was a member of Lyons Creek Baptist Church; employed at Jewelry Television; founding member of Hanover Fist Band; and a U.S. Navy veteran.

He was preceded in death by his father, Glenn Emert and his sister, Lisa Dobbins.

Survivors include his wife, Donna M. Emert; mother, Margaret Emert; step-sons, William (Darla) Ramsey and Stephen Ramsey; step-daughters, Michelle Ridd and Barbara Bowlin; 6 step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 21 at Lyons Creek Baptist Church in Strawberry Plains and the funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. with Dr. Matt Giles and the Rev. Scott Childs officiating.

Military graveside services will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22 at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery on John Sevier Hwy.

Ray Smelcer, 88, of Dandridge (Chestnut Hill Community), slipped the bonds of illness and this earth Saturday, July 19, 2014 to go home to be with the Lord.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 23 at 2 p.m. at the Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church. Graveside interment will follow with military honors at Hills Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home, Dandridge.

William Rufe “Pappy” Spears, age 87, of Dandridge, passed away at Morristown Hamblen Healthcare System on Saturday, July 19, 2014.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, and a retired construction worker.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary Spears and daughter, Beverly Spears.

He is survived by his children, daughter, Judy Petty; sons, William “Larry” Spears and wife, Kathy and Steven Spears and wife, Jeanne; nine grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren, also his beloved dog and companion, Daisy.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 22 at 7 p.m. at Farrar Funeral Home in White Pine, with the Rev. Tommy Lindsey officiating. Graveside Interment will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at 11 a.m. in Coleman Cemetery.

Family will receive friends Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

William “Nick” Williams Sr., of Morristown, passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014 in Powell.

Funeral services will be 7 p.m. Monday, July 21 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Courtney officiating. Family and friends will meet for a 1 p.m. for a graveside service on Tuesday, July 22 at Dalton Cemetery in Bean Station.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday prior to the services at the funeral home.
