ETSU announces spring 2014 graduates

JOHNSON CITY – East Tennessee State University conferred nearly 1,900 degrees in two spring commencement ceremonies, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, on May 10.

Graduating students who achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average during their undergraduate careers were Nicholas Cunningham of Johnson City; Carole Bowker, Molly Ketron and Derek Stallard, all of Kingsport; Morgan Isom of Cleveland, Morgan McFetters of Spring Hill; Katherine Sellers of Blountville; Sarah Wennogle of Greeneville; and Erika Wild of Parrotsville.

In addition to awarding bachelors and masters degrees, as well as graduate certificates, ETSU bestowed doctor of education (Ed.D.), doctor of public health (Dr.P.H.), doctor of audiology (D.Au.) doctor of nursing practice (D.N.P.) and doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degrees on successful candidates.

The featured speakers were U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander, who spoke in the morning, and Ellen Wilhoit, who recently retired as president and chief administrative officer of the LeConte Medical Center in Sevierville, in the afternoon. She was awarded an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree by the university.

The Distinguished Faculty Marshals for the ceremony were Dr. Rosalind Gann, recipient of the 2012 ETSU Distinguished Faculty Award in Service, and Dr. Gregory Ordway, who received the 2013 ETSU Distinguished Faculty Award in Research. The Mace Bearer was Travis Graves, recipient of the 2013 Distinguished Faculty Award in Teaching.
