Jefferson County man charged with shooting son
A 69-year-old father is in the Jefferson County jail on a $50,000 after allegedly shooting his son in the head early Saturday morning.
As of Saturday evening, Edward Alfred Bullard Sr. had been charged with aggravated assault, according to Jefferson County Sheriff G. W. “Bud” McCoig.
McCoig said the 45-year-old son, Edward Bullard Jr., was still in serious condition Saturday evening.
McCoig said the pair were apparently arguing when Bullard Sr. retrieved a .45-caliber gun and shot his son. The father called 911 and authorities were dispatched to the residence around 6:15 a.m. to find Bullard Jr. on the floor in an open space between the kitchen/dining room and living room area.
Bullard Jr. was flown to the University of Tennessee Medical Center where he underwent surgery, according to McCoig.
The sheriff said the duo moved into the East Dumplin Valley Road home around a year ago and there is no history of police calls at the home.
Detective Sgt. Perry Moyers is investigating the shooting.
