Cherokee Park to host Strawberry Fest bluegrass concert

The Citizen Tribune/Jefferson Federal Amphitheater at Cherokee Park in Morristown will be filled with the sounds of bluegrass and gospel music on Saturday, May 10, in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival.

Multi-award winning groups Lonesome River Band and Rodney Dillard & the Dillard Band will bring their highly entertaining shows to the park along with opening act Deeper Faith.

Doors open at 5 p.m. and the concert begins at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 general admission/$15 reserved seating and are available now at Hampton Inn, WCRK, Elliott’s Boots, Retro CD Store and www.cherokeeparktn.com.

The Lonesome River Band has been delivering to audiences for more than 30 years.

The group features the remarkable and award-winning talents of Sammy Shelor, who is considered one of the most influential banjo players of his generation. He is a five-time winner of the International Bluegrass Association (IBMA) Banjo Performer of the Year Award, Virginia Country Music Hall of Famer and recipient of the 2nd Annual Steve Martin Prize for Excellent in Bluegrass in Banjo.

The band, along with Steve Martin, performed on the Late Show with David Letterman where Martin presented Shelor with the award when they sat down with the late night talk show host. Shelor is joined by two outstanding lead vocalists, Brandon Rickman (guitar) and Randy Jones (mandolin) along with exceptional talents of fiddler Mike Hartgrove and bassist Barry Reed -completing a group that is loved by so many fans.

Rodney Dillard’s long and illustrious career has resulted in two Grammy nominations, induction into the International Bluegrass Music Hall of Fame, Missouri Hall of Fame, a well-known acting stint on The Andy Griffith Show and worldwide acclaim for more than 50 years of recording both traditional bluegrass and his own brand of DillardGrass.

Not only does Rodney tour with Rodney Dillard & The Dillard Band, but he also hosts numerous Mayberry themed concerts and events around the country like “Mayberry Memories,” “Christmas in Mayberry” and “Mayberry Values” programs.
