 Tommy Carpenter, 73, of Rogersville, passed away Saturday, April 12, 2014.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Carpenter.

He leaves his sons, Tommy (Kristie) Carpenter II; and William (Deborah) Carpenter; grandsons, Robert and Hunter Carpenter.

Per his requests, the family will hold private services.

Harold Lewis Gray, “Mr. Harold,” 77, of Lumberton, N.C. passed away on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C. He was born in Robeson County, N.C. on Jan. 13, 1937 to the late Zebulan Vance Gray and Eunice Musselwhite Gray. He retired from Roadway Express as a 3 Million Mile Safe Driver.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Morris Gray.

Mr. Gray is survived by two sons, Van Gray and wife, Cheryl, of Greensboro and Mike Gray and wife, Billie, of Lumberton; a daughter, Janet Newton and husband, Jim, of Lumberton; a brother, Tim Gray and wife, Glenda, of St. Pauls; a sister, Pat Goldbach and husband, Bill, of Florida; grandchildren, Alex Gray, Abagail Gray, Mellissa Quick, and Rodney Gray; and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Floyd Mortuary & Crematory, Inc., 809 East 5th Street in Lumberton.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at Floyd Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Broadwell officiating. Burial will follow the service at Tolarsville Baptist Church cemetery.

 Clara Belle McElhaney, 84, of Morristown, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Mayes Family Services, Downtown Chapel.


Robert Marion “Bob” Meadows, 82, of Gastonia, N.C. passed away peacefully on April 14, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Buncombe County, on March 25, 1932 to the late George Franklin Meadows Sr. and Julia Hinkle Meadows.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George Franklin Meadows Jr.; and a sister, Ann McJunkin.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. Bob was a lover of new technology and enjoyed watching the birds. Bob was a graduate of University of Tennessee; he loved all Tennessee sports and was an avid Vols fan. He was veteran of the U.S. Air Force and had retired from Hotel Management with over 45 years of service.

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Sylvia Burchett Meadows; a daughter, Caroline Moon and husband, Scott; two grandchildren, Abbey and Alex Moon; and his loving dog, Rusty; and a brother-in-law, Larry Burchett and wife, Dorothy.

A celebration of his life will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, April 17 at Withers & Whisenant Funeral Home with Pastor Matt Vanderbilt officiating with military honors by the Gaston County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.

 Horan Juarez Morales, 30, of Morristown, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System following a motor vehicle accident.

Funeral mass will be Wednesday, April 16 at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. The body will lie in repose at Dockery Funeral Home following the funeral. Interment will be in Chiapas, Mexico.

 Shirley Ann Wice, 63, of Whitesburg, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 14, 2014 at her residence. She attended Panther Park Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Junior and Effie Wice; brother, Robert Wice and cousin, Linda Dalton.

She is survived by her brothers, Steven Wice of Rutledge and Lonnie Wice of Hamblen County; cousins, Patricia Estes and husband, Raymond of Whitesburg, Anita Witt of Rutledge, Debra Westmoreland of Whitesburg and Barbara Collins of Morristown; special second cousins, Allen Estes and Ashley Estes; and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 16 at 8 p.m. in the chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Lawson and the Rev. James Ramsey officiating. Family and friends will meet at 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, April 17 in Catherine Nenney Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
