Hurricanes fall to South Doyle
KNOXVILLE – The Morristown East Hurricanes only allowed four hits against South Doyle Tuesday evening, but eight walks, four hit batters and a pair of errors allowed the homestanding Cherokees to grab a 10-1 victory.
The Cherokees got three of their hits in the first inning, scored six runs in the frame and only had one hit the rest of the way, but they walked away with a 4-1 record in the Inter Mountain Conference.
The Hurricanes (4-7, 0-6 IMAC) couldn’t bounce back from the tough opening frame, and their lone run came on an RBI single by Ryan Lynch in the top of the third inning.
Braden Jones, Will Thompson and Hayden Davis each had a hit in the loss for East. Cody Ott belted a pair of hits, crossed the plat twice and drove in two runs for the Cherokees, while Brody Rollins had a hit and scored twice. Luke Scates had the other hit for South Doyle.
East trailed 6-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, but the ‘Kees plated three runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the scoring.
John Murrell tossed a complete game for South Doyle, allowing one unearned run on four hits.
Thompson was handed the loss after giving up six runs – three earned – on three hits in 1.2 innings. Dustin Green allowed three earned runs on no hits in 2.2 innings of relief, and Aaron Rymer surrendered an unearned run on one hit in 1.2 innings of work.
