South Doyle drops Hurricanes 9-1
Morristown East’s Ryan Lloyd pitches during Monday’s game against South Doyle.
The Morristown East Hurricanes could muster only three hits Monday against visiting South Doyle, as the Cherokees showed why they are one of the top teams in the Inter Mountain Conference with a 9-1 victory at Sherwood Park.
South Doyle improved to 3-1 in IMAC play behind the arm of starting pitcher Blake Stansberry. The senior, who has signed with Middle Tennessee State, did not allow a hit in his five innings of work on the mound, and the Hurricanes (4-6, 0-5 IMAC) could not score until their final at-bats in the seventh inning.

In the junior varsity game, East rallied for a 5-1 deficit with five runs in the fourth inning to win 6-5 over South Doyle.
Hayden Davis and Spencer Odom both had doubles in the win, while Trey Martin, Tipton, Jake Dent and Aaron Smith all added singles. Smith scored a pair of runs, and Odom, Martin, Davis, Smith and Seth Laughner all had an RBI in the victory.
Dent worked two scoreless innings on the mound in relief to get the win. Smith allowed five runs – two earned – on five hits in three innings as the starter.
