Dewey L. Bales, 90, of Morristown, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 with his family by his side.

Mr. Bales retired from the Tennessee Highway Patrol with 25 years of service with the rank of Lieutenant. He also retired from the Hamblen County Sheriff’s Department with 26 years of service as a bailiff in criminal court. He was a veteran of WWII and survived the torpedo attack of The Leopoldville. He was a member of the VFW Post 5266, Morristown Masonic Lodge 231 and the Kerbela Shrine. In his later years, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle along with his dogs, Bullet and Smokey.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Kate Pratt Bales; brothers, Albert, Lawton, L.M., Jack; sisters, Elva Hux, Marybelle Hodge, Irene Noe.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Bales; children, Stephen (Karen) Bales, Janice (Phillip) Wampler, Mike (Hazel) Bales; grandchildren, Derek Bales, Sarah (Phillip) Rowan, John (Gretchen) Wampler, Michelle Bales; great-grandchildren, Dustin, Emma, Ava, Johnny; sisters, Faye (Wallace) Mills, June Gilliam; sister-in-law, Willie (Lawton) Bales; several nieces and nephews.

Masonic service will be followed by the funeral service at 8 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20 at Grace Baptist Church in Morristown with the Rev. James Williams and Retired Judge James E. Beckner officiating. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. until time of service at the church. Family and friends will meet at 10:15 a.m. Friday, Feb. 21 at Stetzer Funeral Home to process to Hamblen Memory Gardens for and 11 a.m. graveside service conducted by the Tennessee Highway Patrol Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the American Kidney Foundation or a charity of your choice.

Carolyn Epley Bridges, 63, of White Pine, passed peacefully Saturday morning, Feb. 15, 2014 in her home. All of her loved ones where present.

Retired from BASF and a beloved retired employee of Comfort Inn in Newport, she was proceeded in death by her father, Ernest W. Epley; mother, Louise M. Epley, and beloved sister, Gayle Baxter.

She was survived by daughters, (Rhonda) Robert Holt, Melodie Bridges Long of White Pine; grandchildren, (Jessica) Tim Cody, Bradley T. Barrett, (Rowdy) Dennis F. Long III, Adison M. Long, Julia K Long; sisters, (Janice) Billy Wagers, Barbara L. Epley Woodson; brother, Ronnie Epley and wife, Dianna Epley; and numerous neices, nephews, great-neices, and nephews.

The family will be holding a celebration of Carolyn’s life at the cemetery of Open Door Church, Newport on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations toward expenses will be deeply appreciated.

I gave Him my heart.

She will be greatly missed.

Hazel G. Collins, 80, of Russellville, went home to be with the Lord, Monday, Feb. 17, 2014 at The Heritage Nursing Home. She was saved at an early age and was a member of New Salem Baptist Church in Rogersville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Stelle and Martin Gibson; daughter, Magalene Collins; brothers, Robert and Raymond Gibson; half-brother, Tee Gibson; sisters, Stella Gibson, Clara Bell, Mary Mable and daughter-in-law, Debbie Collins.

She is survived by her children, Floyd(Pam) Collins of Rogersville, Marvin Collins of Bulls Gap, Brenda (Ricky) Dodson of Russellville; Pat (Junior) Holt of Bulls Gap Vatris (Jim) Crittenden of Whitesburg, Larry (Angie) Collins of Russellville, Donny (Lisa) Collins of Whitesburg, Kathy (John) Murray of Morristown and stepdaughter, Tammy Huff of Russellville; 22 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and nurses that took care of our Mom during her stay at Heritage Nursing Home.

The family will receive friends 5 – 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 in the East Chapel of Allen Funeral Home prior to the funeral service at 8 p.m. with the Rev. Jay Brady and James Cline officiating. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20 at Hamblen Memory Gardens.

Dolores M. Davis, 84, of Morristown, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at Johnson City Medical Center.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.


William “Bill” F. Davis, 68, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014 at Physicians Regional Medical Center.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 21 at Dockery Funeral Home, followed by the funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Rosie Cuberson will be officiating.

Kimberly Dawn Frazier, 45, of Del Rio, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Tennova North Knoxville Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at Graham’s Chapel Cemetery in Baneberry.

Margaret Lowery, 77, of Hendersonville, formerly of Mohawk, went to be with the Lord on Monday, Feb. 17, 2014.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lowery; parents, Ruth and Boyd Hayes; sister, Betty Combs; and brothers, Billy Jack Hayes and Gabby Hayes.

She is survived by her children, Jeanette Whited, David (Joy) Lowery, Becky (Tim Maize) Lowery; grandchildren, Michael Whited and Chris Whited; sisters, Sue Long and Jean Fincher; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held in the chapel of Stubblefield Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Howard Shipley officiating. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. to go in procession to Bethesda Cemetery for an 11 a.m. graveside service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening 4 – 7 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.

Brenda Ann Simpson-Hale, 64, of Fayetteville, Ga., entered eternal life on Jan. 31, 2014 at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.

The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 22 at Dockery Funeral Home, followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Carl Bragg will be officiating.
