Phyllis Barnes Grooms, 68, of Morristown, passed away Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 at Lakeway Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17 at Westside Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5 to 6 p.m. Monday, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Ida C. Hicks, 86, of Sneedville, born May 14, 1927, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 at Morristown Hamblen Health Care System. Ida was a lifelong member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she was saved at an early age. Ida touched many hearts with her acts of kindness and hospitality. She was a good wife, mother and grandmother.

Ida was preceded in death by her father, Lander Lawson; mother, Laura (Murrell) Lawson; brothers, Dana Lawson, James M. Lawson, the Rev. S.D. Lawson and Grant Lawson; an infant son; half-brothers, John and Harve Lawson and sisters, Ina Roberts, Kate Seal and Bonnie Short

She is survived by her husband of 63 years of marriage, Ben Hicks of the home; son, Gary Ben Hicks and wife, Glenda of Sneedville; grandchildren, Austin and Bryan Hicks of Sneedville; many special friends, family, medical staff and care givers

Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the McNeil Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. J.B. Buttry and the Rev. Donnie Shaw officiating. Special music will be provided by the Collins Trio. Interment will be in the Murrell Cemetery on Cool Branch Road.

Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Baker, Rodney Brewer, P.J. Tripuka, Kevin Stines, Ron Pareti, Ron Lawson and Brad Seal. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be J.D. Short, Paul Lawson and Robert Johnson

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the McNeil Funeral Homes

Jerry Luther Howell Sr., 74, of Morristown, went into his eternal rest on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014 at Greystone Healthcare Center. Jerry was born on Sept. 16, 1939.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Dixie Howell; father, James Dunwoody Sr.; father-in-law, Donald Casselman; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jordan Howell Sr.; son, Jerry Luther Howell Jr.; dauther Ruth Renee Dansby; brother, Charles Blue; and son-in-law, Kavet E. Cooks Sr.

Left to mourn his passing is his loving wife of 17 years, Donna Howell; sons, James Howell, Paul Howell and Jimmie Tucker; stepson, Daniel Houtz; his devoted daughter, LaShea Cooks; brother, James (Loretta) Dunwoody Jr.; sisters, Carlette (Johnny) Russaw, Claudia Haskin and Janet (Eugene) Russaw; sister-in-law, Deann Casselman; five sisters-in-law and four brothers-in-law from New York state; stepmother, Inez Dunwoody; mother-in-law, Dorothy Copeland; and a host of grandchildren; two great-granchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a faithful cousin, Sissy Donaldson.

Jerry’s grandson, Kavet “Boomer” Cooks was truly dedicated to caring for his grandfather, and they enjoyed hanging out and talking with one another.

The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at Dockery Funeral home, followed by the funeral service at 1 p.m. Elder J.W. Dukes will be officiating. Interment will be at Dandridge Cemetery.

Leota E. Kimbrough, 83, of Morristown, passed away Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014 at her home. She was a member of Dover Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

Due to the weather conditions on Thursday the funeral services were changed to 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14 in Mayes Family Services, Downtown Chapel with Dr. Johnny Shipley officiating. Interment will follow in Dover Church Cemetery. The family will received friends, Wednesday, Feb. 12 at the funeral home.

Leota Kimbrough will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.

James Henry Long, 85, of White Pine, formerly of Morristown passed away Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014 at Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Visitation for will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14 in the chapel of Mayes Family Services, Downtown and the funeral service will follow at 8 p.m. with the Rev. George McCoy officiating. Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 in Hamblen Memory Gardens for a 10 a.m. graveside service.

Brenda S. Martin, 57, of Talbott, passed away Monday, Feb. 10, 2014.

Family and friends will meet Friday, Feb. 14 at 12:45 p.m. in Clintview Baptist Church Cemetery for a 1 p.m. graveside service.

Mary Geneva Susong, 79 , of Whitesburg, passed away on Friday, Feb. 14, 2014 in Rogersville.

Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Stubblefield Funeral Home.




Robert Allen Williams, 52, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2014 after suffering from a series of strokes. He will be remembered for his infectious sense of humor, his creativity and beautiful voice. His spiritual conviction and commitment to All Saints’ Church could be seen in his beautiful flower arrangements and joyful participation in the choir.

He is survived by his partner of 27 years, David Lee Burnette; his sister Kim Ratner and husband, Matthew; his niece, McKenzie and nephew, Taylor; and mother, Doris Williams.

He is preceded in death by his father, George Williams; his grandfather, Robert Treece and his grandmother, Virginia Treece.

Funeral services will be held at All Saints’ Episcopal Church on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the flower fund of All Saints’ Episcopal Church.
