Patton to serve as TCAT’s interim director
Former student counselor and director of the then Tennessee Technology Center in the Tri-Cities, Jerry Patton, returns to the now Tennessee College of Applied Technology in Morristown as interim director.
“You know how they say you can’t go home again? Well, you can,” Patton said.
Adding to his already long list of education positions, Patton also worked for six years at WSCC as well as most recently working positions with Tennessee Board of Regents and TCAT Knoxville, even though he announced his retirement in June 2009.
“I’m still trying to figure out how to retire,” he said.
Already being familiar with the Lakeway Area, Patton will be overtaking the position and duties of former TCAT at Morristown Director Lynn Elkins, who served the school for about 43 years in several capacities.
Patton says he will continue any ongoing projects started under Elkins’ administration and continue to “maintain what we have now.”
Patton will serve under the title of interim director until the school and TBR announce a permanent director, hopefully by May 2014, Patton said.
A selection committee will meet next week to discuss the process, and application are being reviewed now. Those selected for the position will have broad administration experience, at least a master’s degree and could come from either a teaching or business background, Patton said.
