Senators roll past Maryville JV, 92-66
MARYVILLE — The Walters State Senators had six players reach double figures, and they broke open a close game at halftime to blowout the Maryville College JV Scots, 92-66, Tuesday night in their first game following the Christmas break.
All five starters for the Senators reached double digits in a solid offensive performance that helped WSCC move to 7-10 on the year.
Aaron Wheeler, Denard Williams and Elgrin Wilson led the Senators with 16 points each, while Cameron High scored 14 off the bench. Starters Trey Suttles tossed in 12 points and Daniel Hill added 10 in the win.
Walters State shot 52.9 percent (37 of 70) from the field in the victory, including 6 of 11 from behind the 3-point arc. The Senators also added 12 of 16 from the free throw line.
WSCC led just 45-37 at the half, but the defense stepped up in the second half to help preserve the win. The Scots scored just 29 points in the second half, while the Senators tallied 47 in the final 20 minutes.
Maryville shot 38.5 percent (25 of 65) from the floor in the defeat, including 10 of 24 from long range. The Scots were outrebounded by Walters State, 42-33, in the contest.
Wilson pulled down 7 rebounds in the win, while Suttles and Williams had 6 boards each for the Senators.
