BESSIE E. CONNER
Bessie E. Conner, 100, passed away Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at The Heritage Center, one day after celebrating her 100th birthday with her family and friends.
She was born Oct. 13, 1913 in Mezokovesd, Hungary and came to the United States in August of 1923 on the Ship Ohio at the age of nine. She was always so proud to be an American. She was also the proud owner and operator of a beauty shop until her retirement at age 79. Bessie was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Barbala Elizabeth Juhasz and stepbrother, Matyas Juhasz.
She is survived by her daughters, Betty Conner and Jan Portrum of Morristown; son, John Parks Conner Jr. of Monroe; grandchildren, Anna Beth (Bill) Parker of Morristown, Cathy (Harry) Clearman of Shelby, N.C., Karen (David) Harris of Paint Rock, Chuck (Revone) Gibson of Knoxville, Scott (Sharon) Gibson of Sevierville, Cheri Gibson of Birmingham, Ala., Jack and Julie Conner of Allardt; 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank All-Care of Morristown and all of their wonderful caregivers as well as The Heritage Center and a very special thank you to Victoria Lee for allowing Miss Bessie to spend the last year and a half of her life at home with her daughters, Jan and Betty in peace.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Mayes Family Services, Downtown with services to follow with the Rev. Danny Georges officiating. Graveside service will be 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18 in Hamblen Memory Gardens.

Eli Ensign, age 86, of Mooresburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at Wellmont-Hawkins County Memorial Hospital in Rogersville.

DORIS ANN HUTCHISON
Doris Ann Hutchison, age 61, of Talbott, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2013 at her home. She was a member of Compassion Church.
The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 20 at Mayes Family Services, West with the funeral services to follow at 7 p.m. in the chapel with Pastor Fred Kilman officiating. Graveside services will be 3 p.m., Monday, Oct. 21 in Jefferson Memorial Gardens.

ROBERT ‘BOBBY’ LEWIS
Robert “Bobby” Lewis, age 68, of White Pine, passed away at his home on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013, after a lingering battle with cancer.
Bobby is a graduate of the University of Tennessee with a B.S. degree in Agriculture, and a former teacher at Powell High School and White Pine School. He was an active farmer in the community and was serving on the Jefferson County Co-Op Board of Directors.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ralph Henry Lewis and Dorothy Fripp Lewis.
He is survived by his sister, Anna Lewis; nephew, John Lewis; other family members and several friends and farmhands.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Leadvale Baptist Church with a gathering of friends to follow at the church.

CATHY CAREY MARTIN
Cathy Carey Martin, age 53, entered into rest at her residence Oct. 13, 2013. She was born in Hamblen County and was a longtime resident of Kingsport.
Cathy was formerly employed as a registered dental hygienist. She was a member of Adams Chapel United Methodist Church.
Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Ernie Carey and one brother, Brad Carey.
Survivors include her husband, Tony Martin; special niece, Samantha Carey; special nephew, Josh Carey; two brothers, Doug Carey, Craig Carey and wife, Charlotte.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 5 until 7 p.m. at East Lawn Funeral Home with funeral services to follow in the funeral home chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Billy Byrd. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Gunning’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Adams Chapel United Methodist Church or Holston Home for Children.

William S. McGinnis, 85, of Morristown, passed away Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013 at Morristown-Hamblen Healthcare System.
