Annual blood drive challenge begins Oct. 16

It’s time once again for the Mossy Creek vs. Pioneer Blood Drive Challenge — an annual blood drive competition between Carson Newman University and Tusculum College to see which group can get the most blood donations for Medic Regional Blood Center.

“This rivalry has been going on for many, many years, showing the dedication of both schools to their community,” said Medic spokesperson Christi Fightmaster.

The blood collected during this friendly competition stays in the area to save lives in the community. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members are all welcome to come out to the blood drives to show their support. Each donation collected counts as “point” for the college or university.

The winner will be announced during the game at Carson Newman University on Oct. 19, as well as on Medic’s Facebook page:

Medic will be at Tusculum College on Wednesday, Oct. 16 with two blood drives.

Medic’s staff will be set up inside the Niswonger Commons between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. and the bloodmobile will be parked outside from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Medic will be inside the Student Center at Carson Newman University in Jefferson City from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17.

All donors will receive a game day T-shirt as well as a coupons for an ice cream cone from DQ.

Donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more (16 year olds weighing at least 120 pounds can donate but must have parental consent) and all donors must have positive identification.

For more information, call Medic at 865-524-3074.
