Walters State Community College will offer a new selfdefense class for students age 10 to 14.
“Self-Defense and Violence Prevention for Youth” is offered by Walters State’s Division of Community Education and will meet on the school’s Morristown campus on May 23 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Space is limited for the class, and the cost is $25.
The class combines physical training with body language exercises and includes boundarysetting games, the goal of which is to help build assertiveness.
School officials said participants will leave with keener instincts and new ideas about how to lead a safer life.
Discussions in the class will cover violence in relationships, bullying, online harassment, sexual abuse and defending against an attacker that has a weapon.
The instructor is Chad Gann, a law enforcement and defensive tactics instructor.
