Luke 14 banquet

A woman and excited child show off the happiness and fun of the Luke 14 party at Manley Baptist Church. This year’s party for disabled children and adults will be April 5 and 6.

Manley Baptist Church in Morristown will host its annual Luke 14 party on April 5 and 6.

A conglomeration of local churches puts the party together for the disabled children and adults in the community.

The party is based on Biblical scripture where Jesus says in Luke 14: 13-14 “when you give a banquet invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind and you will be blessed.”

Manley began the Luke 14 event nine years ago and every year it has grown in popularity. More than 1,000 people attended last year’s party.

Because of the crowd, the party was divided into two nights this year – one tailored for the children with disabilities and one for the adults with disabilities.

As the event has grown, other Churches in Jefferson City, Morristown, and surrounding communities have joined with Manley.

The theme this year is a Medieval Fair, which will crown the special guests as kings and queens for the evening. The Fair begins 4 p.m. each day and will include a petting zoo, games and crafts, hay rides, dinner in the “castle” (gym) and a short program.

Friday night, April 5 is the children’s /family night and April 6 is for the adults and caregivers.

Reservations are needed by Friday, March 29 and can be made on the website www.Luke14.net or by calling Tracy at 865-243-0555 or emailing reservations@Luke14.net.

Volunteers are needed for both evenings. Anyone can register to volunteer on the same website as for the reservations or emailing volunteer@luke14.net. Donations can be made to Manley Baptist Church/Luke 14 by sending a check to Linda Bean at 6942 Glen Drive, Talbott, TN 37877 or giving online. The party is free and open to the community.

Organizers said the purpose is for those with special needs to know they are valuable and treasured, as well as to God, and Jesus has a special place at the table for them.
