The 10th annual Lakeway Hardball Classic will open this afternoon with games at Morristown East, Morristown West and Cherokee High Schools.

Nine teams will participate today before David Crockett drops out after the opening day to do fundraising work at Bristol Motor Speedway this weekend.

West, East, Cherokee, David Crockett, Grainger, Greeneville, Elizabethton, Halls and Sullivan Central will each play two games today, and the tournament will be seeded after the final games are played tonight.

All games today will be played with an hour and 45-minute time limit, while Friday’s semifinals will have a two-hour and 10-minute time limit. There will be no time limits on Saturday’s championship day.

At Trojan Park, the Trojans and coach Chuck Stansberry will take on coach Joe Nix’s Elizabethton squad at 4 p.m. today before the Cyclones turn around play Halls and coach Doug Polston at 6 p.m. The Red Devils will take on West in the final game of the night at 8 p.m.

At Sherwood Park, the Hurricanes and coach Frank Glover will host Grainger and coach Chad Tate at 4 p.m. before the Grizzlies play Crockett and coach Scott Hagy at 6 p.m. The Pioneers will play East in the last game at Sherwood at 8 p.m.

At Cherokee High School, the Chiefs and coach David Hartsook will take on Greeneville and coach Jeremy Shepherd at 4 p.m. before the Greene Devils take on Sullivan Central and coach Brian Barbour at 6 p.m. The Cougars will turn around and take on the Chiefs at 8 p.m.

After the games tonight, the teams will be seeded and the fourth seed will face the fifth seed at Trojan Park at 5:30 p.m. Friday. The top seed will take on the eighth seed at 8 p.m. at West.

The third seed will take on the sixth seed at 5:30 p.m. at Sherwood Park before the second seed and seventh seed play at 8 p.m. The seeds will be determined by five different criteria – record, head-to-head, runs allowed, run differential and coin toss.

Consolation games will be held at Sherwood Park on Saturday beginning at noon, and the semifinal games will be played at Trojan Park at the same time. The championship game will be held at West at 5 p.m.
