Hamblen high schools compete in DECA competition

Students from both Hamblen County High Schools competed in the recently held Tennessee DECA District Five Competition in Pigeon Forge. Hamblen County Department of Education officials said the following Morristown-Hamblen High School West qualified to go to the 2013 Tennessee DECA Career Development Conference in Nashville, on March 7 through March 9. Christa Adams qualified in the Apparel and Accessories Marketing Series. Gabrielle Belfry qualified in the Marketing Management Series. Tyler Brotherton qualified in Marketing Communications Team Decision Making, in team one. Tim Carson qualified in the Human Resources Management Series. Tia Davis qualified in the Community Service Project, in team one. Zack Fehl qualified in Voting Delegate. Rachel Forte qualified in the Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making category, in team one. Kaetlyn Jacobs qualified in the Accounting Applications Series. Aiden Layer qualified in the Voting Delegate category. Katie Lowe qualified in the Community Service Project category, in team one. Jordan Schaff qualified in the Buying and Merchandising Team Decision Making category in team one. Alexandar Strader qualified in the Automotive Services Marketing Series. Sydnie West qualified in the Marketing Communications Team Decision Making category in team one. Hamblen County Department of Education officials said the Morristown-Hamblen High School East DECA chapter brought home several awards. Teagan Ottinger won second place on the exam in the Hospitality Services Team Event. Teagan Ottinger and Tatyana Pippins won second place in the role play area in the Hospitality Services Team Event. Austin Atkins won second place on role play two in Automotive Services Marketing. Haley Hawkins won first place on role play two in Restaurant and Food Service. Ashley Rangel is the first alternate in Principles of Hospitality.

 From East High, the following competitors qualified for the Tennessee State Conference to be held at the Opryland Hotel in March: Austin Atkins in Automotive Services Marketing, Emma Atkins in Food Marketing Series, Josh Cook in Business Services Marketing, Haley Hawkins in Restaurant and Food Service Management Series, Brook Morrisett in Principles of Business Management and Administration, Teagan Ottinger and Tatyana Pippins in Hospitality Services Team, Megan Hurst and Ryan Smith in Financial Services Team, Bobby Short in Quick Service Restaurant Marketing and Grace Tolliver in Food Marketing Series.
