Walters State Community College will offer non-credit courses for individuals interested in four healthcare careers: certified nursing assistant, registered dental assistant, clinical medical assistant and phlebotomy technician.
In the Certified Nursing Assistant course, students will learn to perform basic routine patient care in various health care facilities including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals and home health agencies. Students completing the course will be eligible to apply for the Tennessee State Certification Examination for Nurse Assistant licensure. A class held at the Morristown campus runs Feb. 19 through April 30. It meets on Monday and Tuesday from 5 to 10 p.m. A class on the Greeneville/Greene County Campus runs March 5 through May 21 and meets from 4 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. The cost for the class is $569.
The Registered Dental Assistant course teaches the skills needed in a dental office. Students learn to prepare patients for exams, sterilize equipment, radiography, patient education and more. This class meets in Greeneville from Feb. 26 through July 13. Class times are from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday. The cost for this class is $759.
The Clinical Medical Assistant program trains students to assist physicians in the clinical responsibilities involved in the operation of a medical office. This class meets March 26 through July 27 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The class will meet Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. The cost for the class is $2,409.
Phlebotomy Technician is a 10-week class designed to provide didactic and clinical instruction in collecting blood samples. Technicians work in many clinical settings. This class will be offered in Morristown from Feb. 25 through May 1. This class meets Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. A class on the Sevier County Campus meets March 11 through May 15. Class sessions are Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. A class will also meet at the Walters State Greeneville/ Greene County Campus from March 19 through May 30. Class time is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday. The cost for the class is $799.
A Phlebotomy Technician Course follows the Phlebotomy Technician class. The course provides the student with additional phlebotomy practice in a clinical setting. Upon completion of both courses, students will be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association Certified Phlebotomy Technician national examination. The cost for this class is $125. Hours will depend on placement.
