Walters State Community College’s Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center will host several events in February.

There will be a demolition derby at 7 p.m. on Feb 2. Admission will be $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for children age 6 and under.

Indoor motocross racing, sponsored by Victory Sports, will take place Feb. 8 and Feb. 9 at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for children ages 4 through 11, and free for children age 3 and under.

Several equestrian events will be held in February as part of the WSCC Agriculture Club’s Winter 2013 Horse Series.

The horse series events, some of which also take place in January and March, offer horse owners a chance to exercise horses in an arena environment, and – unless otherwise noted – spectators are admitted free.

There will be exhibition barrel and pole runs Feb. 5 and Feb. 19. The gates will open at 5 p.m. and timed runs will begin at 6 p.m.

The rider fee is $10 per rider, and each rider will receive two tickets. Additional tickets are $3 each, or four tickets for $10. Only paid riders will be allowed in the arena with horses.

Barrel and pole run events will also be held Jan. 22 and March 12.

A ranch sorting event will take place Feb. 12.

At 6:15 p.m., a demonstration will begin. Practice runs will begin at 6:30 p.m. and jackpot will start at 9 p.m.

The fee is $10 per rider, and each rider will receive two practice run tickets. Additional tickets will be sold two for $5 or five for $20. This event has a 60 percent payback.

Other ranch sorting events are scheduled for Jan. 29 and March 5.

Also on Feb. 12 will be a goat roping event, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. The event is part of a Goat Roping Series, with additional dates on Jan. 29 and March 5. The series is open jackpot with a 50 percent payback.

It includes peewee – ages 5 through 8 – and youth – ages 9 through 12 – Goat Roping Buckle Series, for which trophy buckles will be awarded on March 5.

Riders must participate in the March 5 roping and one other goat roping session to be eligible.

On Feb. 13, there will be a team roping event, which will be a 12-per-side, limited round robin.

Books will open at 6 p.m. and roping will start at 7 p.m. The fee is $100 per roper, with 60 percent payback. For more information on this event, contact Dana Rich at 423-273-3172.

A Ranch Rodeo is scheduled for Feb. 16 at 7 p.m.

This spectator event showcases teams of professionals competing in a number of rodeo events, including wild cow milking, calf dress, chute dogging, cow hide races and a barrel race. Children can participate on the arena floor in a calf ribbon chase and a stick horse race.

This year, the event will feature Roman-style riding by Dixie Stampede riders Dusti Crain and Justin Dickerson.

Spectator admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 7 to 17 and free for kids age 6 and younger.

The Smoky Mountain Sales Walking Horse Sale will take place Friday, Feb. 22, and Saturday, Feb. 23. The sale begins at 6 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
