Walters State Community College will offer an in-depth course for individuals planning to take the Certified Administrative Professional exam.

The class begins Feb. 7 and meets on Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. through April 25. Students will then be able to take the May 4 exam.

The CAP is an internationallyrecognized certification for administrative, secretarial and office personnel. Previously, it was known as the Certified Professional Secretary certification.

The CAP class at Walters State prepares individuals for the material covered on the exam: office systems, technology, office administration, management, human relations and communications. The class, like the exam, is divided into three main subject areas: office administration, office systems and technology and management.

A survey by OfficeTeam reports that having a CAP leads to higher pay, opportunities for advancement and employment.

The exam is given twice each year by the International Association of Administrative Professionals. Individuals in this class will be encouraged to register and take the May 4 test.

The total cost of the course is $280. This does not include the exam fee.
