The United Way of Hamblen County serves as the umbrella fundraising organization for 24 charitable agencies serving thousands of residents with a variety of needs. More than 200 health and human services programs are administered through the individual agencies, and participants can range from newborns to seniors.
The United Way funds the agencies through an annual collaborative drive, traditionally a six-week comprehensive capital campaign. Each year’s goal is determined after the organization’s budget and allocations committee hears budget requests from all of the agencies. A campaign chair spearheads the drive and is assisted by an 19-member cabinet, several Pacesetter companies and more than 20 loaned executives. All are volunteer positions.
Now in its 58th year, the United Way began in Morristown as the United Fund — a unified effort to raise funds for area nonprofit agencies and replacing many of the individual campaign drives.
