Hamblen volunteer fire departments keeping citizens in good hands
Residents living outside the city limits of Morristown depend on four volunteer fire departments in Hamblen County for protection.
Volunteer men and women staff the locations in North, South, East and West Hamblen County. When a structure is on fire at least three of the departments typically respond.
The volunteer departments rely on fundraisers, donations and grants to fund the resources needed to extinguish fires.
None of the volunteers are paid and they respond as soon as they are called out by dispatch.
The Hamblen County Volunteer Fire Departments, and the 70 volunteers who staff the five locations, are on call 24/7, ready to respond at a moment’s notice.
The North Hamblen Volunteer Fire Department was established in 1977 at its 787 Noe’s Chapel Road location.
The department has two engines, one tanker, one brush truck and a concession trailer.
Chief Tony Trent has volunteered for the past 25 years. He has served as the department’s chief for more than a decade.
The North department has 15 volunteers.
