The 10th anniversary of the Morristown Strawberry Festival promises to be the biggest in the festival’s history, with two weeks’ worth of activities. West Elementary locked down as precaution

West Elementary School in Morristown was placed on temporary lockdown Tuesday afternoon after a shooting was reported on Gilbert Street, about two blocks away, authorities say. The suspect was taken into custody around 2:20 p.m., about 22 minutes after the shooting was reported and the lockdown was lifted.     Early voting in the May 6 Hamblen County primary election is down by nearly a third from four years ago, and there will be one fewer early voting days this year, according to the Hamblen County Election Commission statistics.     A former Grainger County Sheriff’s Department jailer pled guilty Monday to two counts of sexual conduct with an inmate and two counts of officer misconduct. Jessie Eugene Cummings, 24, was initially charged with two counts sexual misconduct with an inmate, three counts of official misconduct and one account of official oppression.
