KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Award-winning writer Edward T. Sullivan will lead a workshop to teach others about trends and opportunities in publishing for young people.
The workshop, sponsored by the Knoxville Writers’ Guild, will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 6, at the Stone House, Church of the Savior, 934 North Weisgarber Rd.
“We will look at how to identify publishers for submission and the submission process for fiction, informational books, and picture books,” Sullivan said. “Participants will have the opportunity to share their ideas for potential book projects and ask questions about works-in-progress.”
Sullivan has made a career working with young adults as a writer, teacher and librarian. His most recent book, “The Ultimate Weapon: The Race Develop the Atomic Bomb” (Holiday House, 2007), received many awards, including a Parents’ Choice Silver Honor Award and a Jefferson Cup Honor Award for Distinguished History Book for Young People.
As a freelance writer, he creates educational materials for many publishers, including Harper Collins, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Little, Brown, Scholastic and Simon & Schuster. He reviews children’s and young adult books for “Booklist,” “Kirkus Reviews” and James Patterson’s Website, www.ReadKiddoRead.com. Sullivan maintains a blog called Rogue Librarian.
