June 16, 2012 @ 12:00 am – 2:30 am

Making its worldwide premiere this coming summer, “Summer Magic” is a brand new stage adaptation by Jerry Maloy and Jimmie Hollifield of Walt Disney’s 1963 classic movie musical starring Oscar winners Hayley Mills and Burl Ives. The show is hosted by the Morristown Theatre Guild.

The songs were written by the Oscar-winning team of Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman. Richard Sherman said that Walt Disney used the musical as an “audition” for ‘Mary Poppins’ -  ‘to see if we could handle a big-budget musical like ‘Mary Poppins.’”

The script was originally adapted by Sally Benson (who also wrote “Meet Me in St. Louis” and “Viva Las Vegas”) from Kate Douglas Wiggin’s novel “Mother Carey’s Chickens.”

Maloy received special permission from Disney Theatrical to perform his adaptation, meeting with Richard Sherman in California in consultation about the production.

Set in 1912 Maine, the musical features ragtime, barbershop, player pianos, waltzes, and the Disney favorite “The Ugly Bug Ball.” The cast encompasses all ages of dancers, singers, and actors. The production promises to be a delight from start to finish.
