“Seussical the Musical Jr.” staged by Jonesborough Repertory

Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s musical theatre conservatory will present Seussical the Musical, Jr. by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, based on the works of Dr. Seuss July 20 and 21.

Students will bring to life many of Seuss’s beloved characters in Seussical the Musical.

The show begins when the infamous Cat in the Hat draws a young boy into Seuss’s world, visiting the Jungle of Nool, McElligot’s Pool and Whoville. Next, meet Horton the Elephant with two challenges, one to help his friend Jojo and to guard an abandoned egg left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. As Horton works to solve his challenges he encounters many wonderful creatures including Gertrude McFuzz, Sour Kangaroo, the citizens of Whoville, the Wickersham brothers, the Grinch and many more.

The performances will be on Friday and Saturday, July 20 and 21, with shows at 11 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets for all performances are $10. To purchase tickets, call the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center at 423.753.1010 or visit www.jonesboroughtheatre.com.
