Local Artist Rowan Rose will exhibit her jewelry and give a demonstration on wire wrapping jewelry at the Jonesborough Fine Art Gallery on Sat., July 28 from 4 to 6 p.m.
Rowan Hubbard Rose is a native of Pound, Va. and has been a resident of Jonesborough for the past six years. She took her first class in making wire wrapped jewelry in 1994 at the William Holland School of Lapidary Arts, Young Harris, Ga.
Rowan fell in love with the art and has been creating one-of-a-kind pieces of wire wrapped jewelry since that first day of class. She began teaching the art of wire wrapping at William Holland in 1998 and now teaches both beginning and advanced.
Rowan also teaches at Wild Acres at Little Switzerland, NC as well as some local classes. She is an avid rock collector and cuts and polishes some of the natural stones she uses in the jewelry. Rowan is a member of the Kingsport Gem and Mineral Society and a charter member of the Gem and Mineral Society of the Virginia Peninsula, Hampton, VA. After September 11, 2001, she designed and created an American Flag using red, white and blue seed beads and wire as a tribute to the tragedy of that day. May we never forget that our freedom is not FREE. As a result of this flag creation, the American flag as well as a Canadian flag that she created, it was published in the September 2002 issue of the Wire Artist Magazine, a Canadian publication, and was on the cover as well.
