When:
September 1, 2012 @ 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm

Rose Center Council for the Arts is excited to announce a Rose School Homecoming will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2012 from 10 AM to 3 PM. All former students, teachers and staff are invited to attend.  This will be a free event.

Please email patty@rosecenter.org with any information you may have about Rose School.

During the Homecoming, the  entire building will be open for touring.  We’ll have teacher’s names on the classroom doors and hope that we’ll be given more names to complete the history of this grand school building.  We will have different ways to document your stories:  in writing, audio and video recordings.

Please bring your children and grandchildren.  There will be displays of school-day memorabilia and fun activities for the entire family.  We’ll have people taking photographs of the fun and we’ll even give each alumnus a commemorative photo of you with a Rose Center backdrop.

One of the main goals of the event is to gather information about Rose School from as many people as possible in order to preserve the history of this important institution.  We want to learn about the teachers, principals and staff; the pranks and special moments; what made attending school in this building unique and anything else you want to share.  To create the wonderful displays that we envision we will need help from the people who attended school here or worked here.

We want to expand our photographic archive to include class pictures and any others of the building in early years or during school events.  If you have photos to share you may email us digital images, give us print copies or loan us your original photos so that we can make copies for our archives.  We want as much documentation as you can give us:  date, names, and a description of the subject – anything you know.  We’ll share these at the Homecoming and put some of them on Facebook as we receive them.

Rose Center would also love to have items you’ve saved from those wonderful elementary school days.  These can be on loan just for the Homecoming or they can be donated to our permanent collection.  Think about old uniforms, lunch boxes, pencil boxes, grade cards or anything representing Rose School or your time here.

We want this to be a very fun event and expect that the planning of it will be a lot of fun too.  Please come along for the ride and share your Rose School memories with us.  If you have any questions or would like to share your memories, email patty@rosecenter.org, visit our Facebook page, send us a note or call Patty Gracey at 423-581-4330.  Please share our plans with everyone you know and ask them to do the same.

We’d love to reach as many Rose School alumni as possible and gather names and contact information so that we can send them more information about the Homecoming.
