Rodney Crowell at Hiwassee College

When:
October 1, 2012 @ 7:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Monroe Area Council for the Arts (MACA) will present Rodney Crowell at Barker Auditorium, Hiwassee College in Madisonville on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at 7:30 PM. The performance is supported by funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission.

Grammy Award winning artist Rodney Crowell first gained widespread recognition as a leader of the new traditionalist movement in the mid-’80s. He was, in fact, a singer, songwriter, and producer with roots and ambitions extending far beyond the movement’s parameters. He has written and produced for a variety of artists, including the great Johnny Cash, The Oak Ridge Boys, Bob Seger, Crystal Gayle, and others, while steadily adding to a prestigious catalog of albums and hit singles. IN 2003, Crowell was inducted into the Songwriter Hall of Fame between Willie Nelson and Guy Clark.

His latest album, Kin, a finely crafted country ode to home and family, is a collaboration with bestselling memoirist and poet Mary Karr, and contains musical contributions from Lucinda Williams, Norah Jones, Kris Kristofferson, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, Rosanne Cash, Chely Wright, and Emmylou Harris.

In this duo acoustic performance, Crowell will be accompanied by Jedd Hughes. Hughes, who was born in the small Australian town of Quorn, traveled throughout his teenage years as a sideman with various country entertainers. After relocating to Nashville. , Hughes auditioned to be the lead guitarist for Patty Loveless. Within an hour, he was asked to join Loveless’ rehearsal and then was invited to play the Grand Ole Opry with her the next night and later at the MerleFest bluegrass festival.

Tickets are $20 ($18/advance) for adults, and $10 for students. Advance tickets are available at all Monroe County Citizens National Banks, Century 21 Hendershot Realty in Madisonville, online at www.monroearts.com or call 423-442-3210.
