Bliss Home is hosting a double feature for October’s First Friday! Peyton Ritchie and Melissa Johnson are teaming up to bring viewers an interesting contrast: embossed abstract art and portraits by a figurative artist.

Peyton Ritchie is currently working on her BFA at Belmont University, where she uses her art to ‘explore the contours and hues of the human body’. Peyton’s preferred medium is acrylic and oil to create figurative art, which is an ‘extension of herself’. Peyton is most excited to share her self portrait with the Knoxville art community, which is a reflection of her personal complexities and color theory.

Melissa Johnson is an Art and Art History instructor in Cleveland, TN, who is also working on her Second Certification of Special Education at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In addition to Peyton’s unveiling, Melissa will reveal her latest creation: Embossed Abstractions. Experimenting with the back of the canvas, Melissa applied thick acrylic paint which dried and pushed through to the front of the canvas. On the front of the canvas, Melissa painted clear gesso which accentuates the texture created on the backside.

Come see the contrast this First Friday at Bliss Home! A reception will be held at 29 Market Square, October 5, 2012 from 6pm to 9pm.
