The 6th Annual Mountain Man Memorial March & Marathon
will be held on April 20 in Gatlinburg. The annual marathon
pays tribute to the sacrifices made by American service members and their
families over the years.
The event consists of a full 26.2-mile marathon, a 13.1-mile half-marathon, and a 10-kilometer run. The event also includes a 26.2-mile and 13.1-mile march in
various divisions, heavy and light, military or civilian, and team or individual.
Medical personnel and water checkpoints are offered along the way, and
participants will be given a meal ticket for lunch. Official rules and additional
event details can be found on the Mountain Man Memorial March website.
In addition to the march/run, April 19 and 20 have been declared “Mountain Man Memorial March and & Gold Star Family Weekend” by the City of Gatlinburg, with the Gold Star families of fallen service members gathering to remember and honor their sons and daughters, parents, wives and husbands of service members of any branch of service who lost their life while on active duty.
The marathon is a wonderful opportunity to give thanks to those who paid the
ultimate sacrifice for our country. Participation in the march/run is not required to attend; all are welcome to come together on this day to cheer on the runners and help honor those who have fought and died to protect the United States of America.
The Mountain Man Memorial March is a nonprofit event that raises money for
scholarship grants to Gold Star Family members. Donations can be made online at www.mountainmanmemorialmarch.com
