The festival will continue on Friday, June 29 at Market Square in Knoxville, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. with the Youth Arts Extravaganza and the Kuumba International Film Festival, featuring filmmaker Armaa Johnson’s directorial debut that focuses on the living conditions of Liberian immigrants living in Staten Island, New York. Johnson intends to build a framework with the documentary genre that will bring to light the underrepresented and misrepresented people of the world.
Starting in Downtown Knoxville at 6 p.m., the JUNKANU (Parade) on Gay Street and Market Square will feature festival participants, the original Free Spirit Stilt Walkers, Kuumba Watoto Dance and Drum Company, churches, and community groups who strut, drum, and dance. Attendees can enjoy the African Market Place on Market Square with traditional crafts, clothing, and foods. ”Taste of Africa & the World” Tasting and Competition (Presentation of People’s Choice Award).
The Junkanu Parade culminates with a live concert, featuring Jazz Artist Andre Delano, singer and saxophonist, known for his collaborative works with Maxwell, Usher and Christina Aguilera.
