KSO Presents Haydn and Beethoven at the Bijou

KNOXVILLE SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA PRESENTS HAYDN AND BEETHOVEN-

-Principal Trumpet Cathy Leach to solo-

 The Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestra and Resident Conductor James Fellenbaum will present a concert featuring the music of Haydn and Beethoven at the next Chamber Classics concert on Sunday, November 4 at 2:30 PM at the Bijou Theatre.

Tickets to the concert begin at $22.50 and may be purchased by logging on to the KSO website, www.knoxvillesymphony.com, or by calling the KSO Box Office at 865-291-3310.

The concert will open with the classic Symphony No. 22 in E-flat Major by Franz Joseph Haydn which will be followed by the Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra in E-flat Major, also by Haydn featuring Cathy Leach. After intermission, the program will continue with Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1 in C Major.

Haydn’s Concerto for Trumpet and Orchestra in E-flat Major will feature trumpet soloist Cathy Leach. Dr. Cathy Leach is Professor of Trumpet at the University of Tennessee School of Music where she teaches applied trumpet and directs the University of Tennessee Trumpet Ensemble.  Dr. Leach is Principal Trumpet with the Knoxville Symphony, the Knoxville Symphony Chamber Orchestras, and with the Brass wind Quintet.  For 32 of the 77 years of the KSO’s existence, Cathy Leach has been a member of the trumpet section. Next March will mark her 29th anniversary as principal. She is also a member of Stiletto, a vibrant new brass quintet comprised of five outstanding female brass players from across the United States. Her many awards include a 2004 UT School of Music Leadership Award, a 2006 Chancellors Award for Outstanding Teaching, and a 2007 James R. and Nell W. Cunningham Outstanding Teaching Award.  Dr. Leach has been a member of the Knoxville Symphony since 1981 and has been featured frequently as soloist with the orchestra and throughout the United States.

Ticket holders are reminded that the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will provide a shuttle to take patrons from the State Street Garage to the Bijou Theatre before and after each Chamber Classics concert.  The shuttle will pick up on State Street, in front of the garage beginning at 1:30 PM and make continuous loops between the garage and the theatre until 2:30 PM.  The shuttle will begin taking patrons back to the garage immediately following the concert until about 5:15 PM, allowing patrons the opportunity to attend post-concert chats.  Parking in the State Street Garage is free of charge on evenings and weekends.
