Knoxville Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis Coming This Saturday, December 8th

Get your reindeer antlers and festive holiday attire ready.  The Arthritis Foundation Jingle Bell Run/Walk in Knoxville is coming this Saturday, December 8th.  This year’s event includes 10K, 5K and 1 Mile run/walk options and also has a Santa Chase for kids 5 and under.  Registration is available on Friday at Provision Health & Wellness on Dowel Springs Boulevard, or will be available on the morning of the race.  This community event is a great way to kick off the holiday season by doing something fun to fight the nation’s leading cause of disability.   This years’ event is presented locally by Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic.

The Knoxville event has already broken its own records, with more than 1,700 registrants and over $100,000 raised as of this morning.  Volunteer organizers expect many more on Saturday morning.  The festivities begin when registration opens at 8:30am at The Historic Square in Downtown, with the 10K and 5K beginning at 10:00am, the 1 mile run/walk beginning at 10:10am, and the Santa Chase beginning at 10:45am.  The event will close with an awards ceremony at 11:00am.

Arthritis is much more widespread than imagined, affecting 50 million Americans, roughly one out of five adults, and approximately 300,000 children.  In Tennessee, more than 1.2 million adults and nearly 6,000 children have a doctor-diagnosed form of arthritis.  18-year-old Kristen McAllister, the 2012 Knoxville Junior Honoree, is one of the local faces of juvenile arthritis.  Local resident Bill Morris is the Adult Honoree.  Arthritis impacts dogs too, and Blount County Golden Retriever Bella is the Canine Honoree for 2012.

Statistics show that walking for 30 minutes regularly, can greatly reduce your risk for certain forms of arthritis. The Jingle Bell Run/Walk for Arthritis is the nation’s largest holiday run/walk, with more than 150 events nationwide.  For more information visit www.knoxvillejbr.org or call (865) 470- 7909.
