Joy of Music School Hosts Street Renaming Ceremony
Honoring School Founder, James A. Dick, Sr.
KNOXVILLE, TN (September 25, 2012) – On Thursday, October 18, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. the Joy of Music School invites the community to participate in a street renaming and ribbon-cutting ceremony in honor the school’s founder, and beloved community leader, the late James A. Dick, Sr., who passed away last year.
Mr. Dick’s widow, Mrs. Marilyn Dick, will be the guest of honor as Knoxville Mayor, Madeline Rogero, performs the ribbon cutting. Other members of the Dick family will be on hand, as well as officials from city, county and state governments.
The ceremony will feature remarks from representatives of the School including Board President, Trey Coleman and Executive Director, Francis Graffeo. Current and past Joy of Music School board members, volunteers and students receiving lessons will attend. Refreshments and tours of the School will be provided following the brief ceremony.
This event is free and open to the public.
The Joy of Music School is a nonprofit organization that provides free music lessons to disadvantaged youth in the Knoxville community. The organization was founded in 1998 by James A. Dick, Sr. with the vision of providing free music lessons and instruments to children unable to afford them. The School operates six days a week. Lessons are taught by volunteer instructors.
