Jonesborough Theatre Hosts Fall Class Registration, Launches New Arts School

Jonesborough Repertory Theatre will host fall registration for students kindergarten through 12th grade throughout the month of August.  An  open house registration will be on Tuesday, August 28 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre.

Beginning Sept.10, theater arts classes will be held on Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. for students in fifth to seventh grade and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. for students in eighth to twelfth grade.

On Tuesdays, classes will be offered for students in kindergarten through second grade from 4 to 5 p.m. and from 5 to 6 p.m. for students in third and fourth grades.

Jonesborough Repertory Theatre’s faculty is dedicated to the study and creation of a theatre arts curriculum that combines best practices and includes state standards. All classes are geared to set personal and whole class goals in theatre arts performance. Students will engage in theatre games and exercises that explore introductory and advanced technique development for pantomime, improvisation, voice and diction, storytelling, monologue, duet and group scene work, auditioning, movement for the stage, musical theatre, playwriting and much more.

The theater has had a thriving education program for nearly ten years, and this fall it will launch a new chapter in its popular arts programs.  Beginning this season, the Jonesborough Repertory Theatre and the town of Jonesborough will collaborate with EPIC Evolutions in building the town’s new arts school through the Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts.

“Arts makes a difference in the lives of our youth,” says Jonesborough’s Town Administrator, Bob Browning. “Jonesborough has been a home to our region’s young artists for years. We are now on the verge of completing a new arts facility called the McKinney Center. We are really excited about what the future holds for our community and region.”

If interested, please register by emailing JRTstudents@yahoo.com or call 423.794.7858. Separate workshops will be offered throughout the fall for adults as well. Visit www.jonesboroughtheatre.com for registration forms, updates and details on classes and workshops.
