Harvest Moon Festival
Rogersville Local Artists Gallery is celebrating the Harvest Moon Festival on Saturday; September 6 from 10am-3pm. South Church Street in Rogersville TN is closed off for the festivities which include artists’ booths, music, food and a booth for discount coupons from area shops and restaurants.
Saying thanks for the harvest at the time that the Harvest Moon shines brightest is an old tradition around the world. In China this festival is the second most important day of their calendar. According to Chinese tradition the lady ChangEr lives on the moon with her white pet rabbit. When the Chinese sent a spaceship and a moon-crawler to the moon, they named the spaceship ChangEr and the crawler YuTi, or Jade Rabbit.
For several years one of the Gallery artists, Monica Chua from Singapore, has celebrated this holiday with a private party at her home. This year she asked if it could be a public event; and the Gallery selected September 6 as the day to give local people a chance to experience an artistic and culinary harvest with a Chinese flair and hometown flavor. There are typical “Moon snacks” provided.
In addition to the Chinese art on display, there are 30 other artists of various mediums displaying in the Gallery; and guest artists who have their work, will exhibit in the booths.
As a part of the festivities, music will be provide by Retha Ferrell, Mark Tyne, Guerry McConnnell and other guests.
