“Five Women Wearing the Same Dress” at Rogersville Playhouse

ETSU PATCHWORK PLAYERS BRING COMEDY

TO

ROGERSVILLE PLAYHOUSE  APRIL 13-15, 2012

The players will present the hilarious comedy, Five Women Wearing the Same Dress. The play is written by Alan Ball, who is best known for writing the Academy Award-winning movie American Beauty as well as television shows Six Feet Under and True Blood.

“During an ostentatious wedding reception at a Knoxville, Tennessee estate, five reluctant, identically clad bridesmaids hide out in an upstairs bedroom, each with her own reason to avoid the proceedings… As the afternoon wears on, these five very different women joyously discover a common bond in this wickedly funny, irreverent and touching celebration of the women’s spirit,” states Dramatists Play Service. We quickly learn of the bridesmaids’ mutual disdain for the bride, Tracy. Despite their differences, the bridesmaids discover that they have more in common with each other than they do with the bride. Through discussions of life, love, sex, drugs, religion, and marriage, the bridesmaids begin to connect their lives as they share stories on what it means to be a woman, the horror of their bridesmaid dresses, and much more.

Rogersville welcomes the cast and crew of Five Women Wearing the Same Dress to the playhouse. The show is directed by ETSU theatre student, Hunter Roberts. Appearing in the cast are Hannah Hasch, Camielle Reed, Grey Williamson, Chelsea Kinser, Ashley King and Teague Quillen.

Five Women Wearing the Same Dress will be performed Friday and Saturday, April 13 and 14 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 15 at 2:30 p.m.  Ticket prices are $12 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors (65+). The play is rated PG-13.

“This is a great opportunity for Rogersville Playhouse,” says Kathleen Buttolph, director of last season’s Seussical the Musical. “The playhouse aims to be a space that encourages regional theater productions and theatre arts education for all ages. ETSU has a fantastic theatre arts program and communications department. The Rogersville Playhouse is honored to be collaborating with Patchwork Players on this performance project. We hope Rogersville will join us in welcoming the players by helping us sell out every show!”
