JOHNSON CITY – The award-winning play “The Vagina Monologues” will be performed at East Tennessee State University Friday, March 23, and Saturday, March 24, at 7:30 p.m. in the D.P. Culp University Center’s Martha Street Culp Auditorium.

Funds raised from the event will be donated to the national V-Day campaign, a global activist movement to end violence against women and girls, and to the Amazing Woman Foundation, a local non-profit organization that provides small grants to women leading community service projects.

Written by Eve Ensler, “The Vagina Monologues” was published in 1998 and has been performed around the world.  The work has been described as “funny” and “poignant” by The New York Times and “courageous” and “intelligent” by the Daily News.

The all-female cast will be comprised of 23 actresses who will present monologues that explore “the mystery, humor, pain, power, wisdom, outrage and excitement buried in women’s experiences.”

The event is sponsored by the OASIS (Outreach and Awareness: Sexuality Information for Students) and the FMLA-VOX (Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance – Voice for Planned Parenthood) student organizations at ETSU, and the Shakti in the Mountains women’s center in Johnson City.

Tickets are $5 per person and can be purchased at the door.  For more information, contact Danielle Bellone at (225) 229-3554 or danielle.bellone@gmail.com.
