First Friday – Oct. 5 – at the Blount Mansion beginning at 5 p.m. will feature the Blount Impeachment Newspapers donated by the Walter and Julia Pulliam Foundation.
Blount Mansion will have a special display of newspaper articles featuring the Blount Family and the Blount Mansion Association donated to our collection by the Walter and Julia Pulliam Foundation.
Light refreshments will be provided by the Blount Mansion Association and the
garden will be open late.
On display will be William Blount’s Impeachment article from 1797. It was published in the Massachusetts Mercury on July 14, 1797. It contains a copy of the letter by which William Blount was impeached by the United States Senate.
Blount Mansion is the home of William Blount, Tennessee’s only signer of the United States Constitution, as well as where the Tennessee State Constitution was drafted and signed. It will be an opportunity for all Knoxville citizens to learn about their vital historical importance in the founding of our government via historic newspaper articles in our resident collection.
The Walter and Julia Pulliam Foundation, who generously donated the newspaper collection, has a collection of 900 historic newspaper that date as far back to the 1600s. The resident collection is held at Lincoln Memorial University.
Blount Mansion is Knoxville’s only National Historic Landmark.
