Bent Creek Cemetery Memorial Service

The Bent Creek Cemetery Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 27. A covered dish dinner will be served at 12:30 p.m., with an assembly at 2 p.m.

 In the case of rain, the proceedings will move to the First Baptist Church in Whitesburg. For more information, call 423-235-6122.

 Bent Creek Cemetery in Whitesburg is one of the oldest cemeteries in Hamblen County. It was originally founded in 1785 as part of Bent Creek Church.

Later, in 1810, the cemetery was established at its present location on Stagecoach Road. The first person to be buried there was an unknown traveler on the Indian Trail. Subsequently, Bent Creek has become a burial ground for Revolutionary War veterans, Civil War veterans and others.
