Young singers from across the region are invited to audition for the East Tennessee Children’s Choir and other choirs of the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy as they celebrate their 25th Anniversary season!
Auditions for membership in the East Tennessee Children’s Choir will be held Monday, January 7, between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church, 300 North Roan Street, Johnson City, TN. Children who are in fourth through eighth grades can audition for the East Tennessee Children’s Choir. Children are auditioned in small groups and no preparation is necessary. Auditions take about 25 minutes and are conducted on a first come, first served basis on the half hour.
Singers in ninth through twelfth grades, and male singers with changed voices in eighth grade may audition for the Highlands Youth Ensemble. Auditions for this group are by appointment only, and a recommendation from a music teacher or church choir director is recommended. Children in first, second, and third grades may register for the MECCA Choristers. No vocal audition is required. The Choristers of the Mountain Empire Children’s Choral Academy have sung in several major concerts, including performing the National Anthem at the Bristol Motor Speedway and joining the East Tennessee Children’s Choir at Rhythm & Roots Reunion. Singers come from 30 + different schools (public and private) and home schools. The following communities in Tennessee and Virginia are currently represented in our choirs: Abingdon, Big Stone Gap, Blountville, Bluff City, Bristol, Elizabethton, Erwin, Greeneville, Johnson City, Jonesborough, Kingsport, Limestone, Mosheim, Mountain City, and Piney Flats.
