4th Annual Great Cake Bake at Neyland Stadium

How sweet it is! The 4th Annual Great Cake Bake is set for this Saturday at Neyland Stadium

More than 180 cakes have been entered in the competition to benefit Knox County’s Imagination Library

With competition stiffer than a good meringue, this year’s Great Cake Bake promises a delicious view of the region’s sweetest creations. A record-breaking number of cakes will be on display. More than 180 cakes have been entered in three divisions: All Occasion, Wedding, and Single Cupcake. Bakers of all ages and skill sets are testing their talents for the benefit of Knox County’s Imagination Library.

The Great Cake Bake highlights the region’s cake decorating skills in a competition and public exhibit on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Tennessee Terrace in Neyland Stadium. The doors open to the public from 12-5 pm. Every dollar raised will buy a book for a child in Knox County. Tickets cost $10, and children under 12 get in for free.  Parking is convenient and free.

From a bubble bath-loving M&M to the Starship Enterprise, attendees are likely to see just about anything made out of flour, sugar and butter.  But it is not just a feast for the eyes. Participants can bite into some of the tastiest samples from local bakers and enjoy a milk shooter from Cruze Dairy Farms. And most of the cakes are for sale. In addition to the competition cakes, there is a cash and carry bake sale with all kinds of goodies. Families can enjoy children’s crafts and cupcake decorating as well.  While professionals judge the categories, attendees will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite cake in the People’s Choice Awards.

“The Great Cake Bake is a wonderful event that shows how the entire community can come together to celebrate creativity and imagination for the important purpose of education,” commented Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett. “Educating our children begins with parents, and the Imagination Library is an excellent way to support our families as a child’s first teacher.”
