A little bit of caffeine, a lot of creativity and 24 hours to produce a 10-minute play (from writing to performance) — that is the challenge of the 2013 Carson-Newman 24-Hour Play Festival.

This year’s event opens at 4pm on Friday, January 11 with a welcome and workshops conducted by festival respondents for participants in acting, directing and writing.

Festival participation is open to high school juniors and seniors and any Carson-Newman student. Off-campus students will be hosted overnight by current C-N students with meals and a festival T-shirt provided.  Register online early as space is limited: playfestival

Following dinner, the clock starts and the 24 hours of fun and madness begins with auditions.  At 10 p.m., the playwrights set to work developing 10-minute plays based on the actors, props and costumes assembled by all the participants and at 5 a.m. the directors cast their productions.

Actors join the directors and stage managers at 7 a.m. to begin a day of rehearsals.  Finally, at 6 p.m. on Saturday, January 12 the plays are ready for performance.
