Historic Salt Making Workshop at Marble Springs State Historic Site
Marble Springs State Historic Site will host a nineteenth-century salt making workshop with Jim Bordwine on Saturday, August 18, 2012 from 10:00am until 5:00pm with a lunch break. Participants should bring their own lunches.
Salt, while taken for granted today, was vital to food preservation (and life) on the frontier. Mr. Bordwine, a native of Saltville, VA, and an expert on historical salt production, will demonstrate how salt brine was boiled down to salt crystals.
The cost is $10 per person, and participation will be limited to 30 individuals. To register, call 865-573-5508 or email marblesprings@gmail.com no later than Friday, August 10.
This activity will take place at the Marble Springs State Historic Site: 1220 West Governor John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, TN 37920.
